Poverty rates have been declining for several years in Canada and Nova Scotia. Non-elderly couples without children generally have lower poverty rates than for all economic families.Nova Scotia's poverty rate among couple familes without children increased from 2017 to 2018.In 2018, 8.6 per cent of Nova Scotia couple families with children lived with income below the poverty line. Nationally, 11.0 per cent of the population had income below the MBM threshold with a low of 9.4 per cent in Alberta.Poverty rates have been declining for several years in Canada and Nova Scotia. The population of children aged 0 to 14 years increased by 0.9 per cent for the province as a whole.
